With a total of 63 weeks in the Independent Singles Chart there’s no doubting that between 1981-84 the Leeds based Abrasive Wheels were one of the most successful of all the UK 82 type bands – up ‘n’ at ‘em anthems like “The Army Song”, “Vicious Circle” and “Burn ‘Em Down” (all for the highly collectable Riot City Records) helped establish the band and ensure their logo adorned numerous leather jackets.
“Banner Of Hope”, “Sonic Omen” and “Black & Leather Girl” (all for the equally collectable Clay Records) further cemented their reputation and live, vocalist Shonna and guitarist Dave Ryan in particular were a sight to see, never standing still for a second. The call to arms of debut LP
“When The Punks Go Marching In”, an Indie Chart No.3 smash, remains one of the bench marks of the whole UK Hardcore Punk scene and it’s influence can be felt across much later bands, particularly USA ones like The Casualties and Total Chaos.
